Sincere sympathy to the Loughnane family and to all of Ronan’s wide circle of friends especially those in JK Brackens GAA on his very sad passing.

  140. JK Brackens club & the community

A heavy cloud descended over the JK Brackens club & the community of Templemore this morning as news broke that Ronan ‘Lucy’ Loughnane had passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, April 21st.
Though we had known for some time that this was a battle that Lucy could not win, in spite of his courageous & dignified fight, it’s still difficult to comprehend that such a force of nature has left us.
One of Lucy’s favourite quotes was from the Greek poet Cavafy – “In those streets and fields where you grew up, there you will live and there you will die”. This quote epitomises everything about Lucy – his sense of place & community and his love for his home town.
He was volunteer in the truest sense of the word giving time to numerous local organisations, none moreso than our own club. Very few have devoted as much time & energy to JK Brackens as Lucy, from his playing days right through to his time as an administrator and coach continuing the legacy of his late father Johnny.
Lucy was a pivotal figure in our club and put his shoulder to the wheel over and over again to ensure the progression & development of the club. His tireless energy, whether it was fundraising, club maintenance, PR work or preserving & documenting our club history was inspiring and never waned even during his illness.
He was a staunch & immensely loyal JK Brackens man but his infectious personality and willingness to always give his opinion transcended club allegiances and he was a well known & respected figure in Tipperary GAA circles. He was a proud man on July 10th 2022 when we captured our first Mid Senior Hurling title under the guidance of his lifelong friend Eamonn Corcoran.
Despite his illness he was present in Croke Park last July for the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final and was incredibly proud to see Andrew Ormond & Tipperary winning the Liam McCarthy Cup.
But his greatest pride and warmest joy was his family – his wife Annette and his children Rose, Bobby, Grace & Lily. He cherished them and was so proud of their achievements especially in the areas of hurling, football, camogie & ladies football. He was a proud man to witness Bobby & his teammates win their U13 Hurling County title last September. No doubt Bobby & the girls will continue Lucy’s GAA legacy for many years.
Our heartfelt sympathies to Annette, Rose, Bobby, Grace & Lily. We will forever be grateful to you for sharing Lucy with us.

  141. Joan McClean

Deepest Sympathy to Annette, Rose, Grace, Lily, Anne and all the family on the death of Ronan RIP. May God comfort you in your loss. A huge whole has been made in the Loughnane family in a short space of time. Sincerely Joan McClean

  142. BT Harps

On behalf of everyone at the club, we extend our deepest condolences to his wife Annette, his children Rose, Grace, Lily and Bobby and all of the Loughnane and Carr families, his nieces and nephews at this very difficult time.
Rónán’s family are deeply involved across all levels of the club, with Rose and Bobby excelling on BT teams, and Grace and Lily involved in our academy teams and his many nieces and nephews playing with BT. His passing will be felt profoundly throughout our community.
We also extend our sincere sympathy to his mother Anne, his brothers Cúilán who gave many years from formation to service and support to the club and Gearóid, his sisters Fíona Burke and Sorcha Farrell, and all extended family members, relatives, and friends.
The dedication and service from the Loughnane family to the club has been greatly valued and will always be appreciated.
Rónán was a much-loved member of the Templemore community and his loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The club stands in full support of the Loughnane family and all those grieving at this heartbreaking time.
    May he Rest in Peace.

Sincere condolences to Annette, Rose, Bobby, Grace and Lily, and to Anne, Cúilán, Gearóid, Fíona and Sorcha, and to the extended Loughnane and Carr families.

I remember stopping to talk to Rónán a few years ago as he began the mammoth task of painting the railing on the perimeter wall of St Joseph’s Primary School. He was starting at the McDonagh Terrace end and told me ‘Some might think I’ll never get it done, but I’ll get there’. Whenever he got some spare time over the following weeks and months he sanded and painted a section or two of that railing, and all in a voluntary capacity.

I will often walk down that street to the Church (soon to be officially named ‘Hospital Street’ as a result of Rónán’s efforts) and will think of Rónán, with sandpaper, wirebrush, silver paint and paintbrush to hand, meticulously and carefully preparing and painting every twirl and bar in that metal railing, while chatting to passers-by.

True to his word, he got there in the end.

    RIP Lucy

  216. Marie McMahon Curator Tipperary Museum

To the Loughnane family, my heart felt sympathy to you on the sad passing of your beloved Rónán.
I worked with Rónán on an exhibition for the new Templemore Library. When Rónán called, you knew he had a heritage project which he wanted some support or probably cash! His enthusiasm was infectious and you rarely said no, simply because his projects made sense. Thanks to Rónán & his committee members, Templemore is more vibrant and welcoming because of his many initiatives. Rest easy Rónán xxxx Marie & Museum Team

“Those were happy days in so many, many ways,
In the town I loved so well…” — Phil Coulter, The Town I Loved So Well
These words feel especially fitting as we remember our dear friend and colleague, Rónán Loughnane, whose love for his town of Templemore was at the heart of all he did. His passion for local history, heritage, culture, sport and community enriched not only our school but the entire community.
Rónán brought that love to life through his work—whether in helping to write our school’s history to mark its 70th anniversary, taking on the onerous task of painting our school railings during Covid or in leading local history trails that gave our staff and pupils a deep appreciation of the place we call home.
He had a unique gift for connecting people to their past, always delivered with his infectious smile, friendship and unmistakable sense of fun.
Those truly were “happy days in so many, many ways,” and Rónán played no small part in making them so for all of us. Rónán’s legacy will live on not only in the stories he told and the sense of pride he inspired but most especially in his beloved children, who carry forward his spirit and love of place.
We offer our heartfelt condolences to Annette, Rose, Bobby, Grace, Lily, his mother Anne, brothers Cúilán & Gearóid, sisters Fíona & Sorcha and all the Loughnane & Carr families as well as his wide circle of friends at this difficult time.
