Tommy, my precious girls Caoimh, Soph and Chlo, Michelle, her brothers who I’ve yet to meet, and all extended family members, words cannot describe the pain and deep sadness I felt when the news of Martinas passing was relayed to me while living away from home.

I was so lucky to have Martina in my life for the last 12 years. Her and tommys girls grew up alongside me in my home like little sisters and I will continue to cherish the memories that will be made with them in the future while Martina watches down on us all.

I will miss hearing about her next online order of new clothes or makeup or skincare while sipping on a coffee at our kitchen table in Drom. She was and always will be one of the kindest and most loving people I’ve met.

I pass on my sincerest sympathies to you all. I am thinking of you while you learn to navigate life over the coming days and weeks. Martina will forever live amongst us.

    Sending love and hugs

  172. Yvonne Cawley, Templemore/Luxembourg.

To me, Martina was always Michelle’s big sister first. But how lucky I was that, through our years training together to become teachers, she became one of my own friends too. Some people leave a mark on your life without even trying, and Martina did exactly that with her warmth, her humour, her kindness and her ability to make even the longest days up and down to Cork, feel lighter.

There are simply no words that make any sense of a loss like this. It feels impossible to comprehend that someone so full of life, goodness and care could be taken so soon. The education community in Ireland has truly lost one of the good ones — a teacher who cared deeply, gave endlessly and touched so many young lives in ways that will continue long after this heartbreak.

To Tommy, Caoimhe, Sophie and Chloe, to Michelle, James, Adrian, Damien and all the extended Grimes and Kiely families-my deepest and most heartfelt condolences on the unimaginable loss of your beautiful Martina.

Rest easy Martina. Thank you for the memories, the friendship and the laughter.
