  18. BoM, Staff & pupils of St Joseph's Primary School Templemore

With the passing of Sr. Helen Kennedy, we the Board of Management, Staff and Pupils of St. Joseph’s P.S., Templemore, mourn the loss of an inspiring mentor, spiritual guide and sincere friend. For many years Sr. Helen served on the Board of Management of our School, continuing an unbroken tradition of Mercy Sister involvement at St. Joseph’s, dating back to its foundation in 1951.
As advisor, helper and trustee, Sr. Helen brought a wealth of knowledge and rich experience to our school community, drawn from a life spent in the service of others, in the model of Mercy foundress, Catherine McAuley.
Capable, tireless and dedicated, Sr. Helen was, indeed, more than the sum of her parts. Above all we knew her as a warm and encouraging friend – one whose calmness, discretion and deep spirituality made her presence that of a welcome ‘anam-cara’ to staff and pupils alike.

Gabhaimid comhbhrón ó chroí le deirfiúracha an tSiúir Helen in Ord na Trócaire, maraon le Muintir Uí Chinnéide. Solas na bhFlaitheas dá hanam uasal agus leaba i measc na Naomh go raibh aici.

On behalf of our family can i extend my sincere condolences on the passing of Sr Helen. We are all shocked. I knew of Sr Helen and of her kindness before I worked with her as a member of the Liturgy Committee over the past few years, as well as on Parish Renewal recently but working with her she was a wealth of information and help which she gave freely and warmly and you always knew that if she could do something for you, or help you in any way, that you could always ask. She was the definition of a good, kind and considerate person. She always asked after everyone in the family and in the Butlers as well, as she had so much time for Johnny and Mary as they did for her. She will leave behind her a legacy that will be hard to emulate but will endure for decades to come. May she rest in peace.

She always remembered her past pupils names and took a personal interest in each student. She even bought me a tonic and I had to go to her office every morning to take a few spoons. My mother had died and she went above and beyond to ensure I was healthy. Of course as a teenager i didn’t appreciate it at the time!! May you RIP Sr Helen and I will hold fond memories of you forever, sleep tight. I want to extend sincere sympathy to the sisters of Mercy and the Kennedy family at this difficult time.

Helen was an incredible woman, strong, faithfilled and generous with her time, knowledge and compassion.
